George W. Green Addresses Motor City Packard Club
Doug Stokes, SAH member and director of communications for the Irwindale (California) Speedway, is the recipient of the 2004 Jim Chapman Award for Exellence in motorsports public relations. The announcement was made at the 35th annual All-America Team Dinner of the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association. AARWBA is the oldest and largest organization of motorsports media professionals in the US. Doug has played a hey role in making Irwindale Speedway, a half-mile paved oval near Los Angeles that opened in 1999, into one of the best known short tracks in the country. In addition to its own regular series, Irwindale hosts major national evens such as the USAC Thanksgiving Night Midget Grand Prix and the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown. The late Jim Chapman was a Detroit-area public relations executive who is best remembered as director of racing for the CART series sponsor PPG Industries. George W. Green was the featured keynote speaker at the three-day Packard meeting in Perrysburg, Ohio on May 12 through 14. His topic was The Last Days of Packard. This event marked the 26th annual meeting of Packard aficionados in Perrysburg who belong to the Motor City Packard Club. George was employed by Packard in the 1950s and edited The Packard News dealer magazine. |
